The project proposes the comprehensive refurbishment of the former trade union building in Respaldiza, adapting it to the current needs of the Aiaraldea District Council and reinforcing its role as an administrative and institutional headquarters.

The intervention is based on respect for the identity of the existing building, maintaining its volume and the stonework that characterises its appearance, whilst adapting its façades and internal layout to the new requirements. The façade openings are reconfigured in line with the new spatial layout, giving the building a refreshed appearance consistent with its new use. Inside, a new central atrium connects the three storeys, bringing natural light into the heart of the building and, together with the new circulation core, links the various workspaces and public service areas.

The layout is organised according to criteria of functionality, the extent of public use and the relationship with the exterior. The ground floor houses the most public-facing functions, such as the tourist information office and a multi-purpose hall with independent access, as well as ancillary spaces. The first floor houses the offices of La Cuadrilla’s technical departments, whilst the second floor accommodates the more representative functions, including the boardroom, other offices and a small support office.

The project also extends to the immediate surroundings, reorganising the car park next to the building to create new green spaces, recreational areas and pedestrian routes, thereby improving the headquarters’ connection with the town centre.

The refurbishment of the building envelope and facilities completes a project aimed at creating a building that is more accessible, efficient and open to its surroundings, capable of meeting the Cuadrilla’s new needs whilst preserving and enhancing the identity of the existing structure.
