Energy rehabilitation in La Arboleda

Energy rehabilitation of building façades in the Facundo Alonso housing complex 5-6 in La Arboleda

Year: 2025

Status: Contest. First place

Location: La Arboleda (Trapagaran), Bizkaia.

Area: 1920m2

Architects: TAPER

Technical architect: Estela Gutiérrez Asensio

Developer: Alokabide

The project addresses the refurbishment of buildings No. 5 and No. 6 of the Facundo Alonso group in La Arboleda, taking a comprehensive approach that combines energy efficiency improvements, architectural upgrades and improvements to living conditions.

The intervention focuses on the building envelope as the main tool for transformation, incorporating new layers of insulation to improve thermal performance and interior comfort, while redefining the exterior image of the complex. This strategy is complemented by the improvement of the homes’ energy systems, incorporating efficient, low-impact solutions that reduce consumption and promote more sustainable use of the building.

Along with energy improvements, the project pays special attention to spaces linked to everyday life, expanding and upgrading balconies and drying areas as useful extensions of the home and spaces to support caregiving.

From a formal point of view, the proposal seeks a clearer and more unified image, in dialogue with the surroundings of La Arboleda. The use of white as a background and the highlighting of unique elements in a soft green tone reinforce the identity of the building without detracting from its integration into the urban and natural landscape.
